Indian Administrative Services (IAS) and Indian Police Services (IPS) are two of the most popular and important All India Services that existed before independence. Both IPS and IAS are significant since they are the foundation for development in the country. The government administration is accountable for both IAS and IPS. Revenue as well as Law and Order are two of the most important elements. Development and Security are essential to the development of the nation. IAS and IPS are two of the fundamentals of security and development in India. The evolution of IAS & IPS
Since only a few Indians could take the Civil Services Exam, IAS and IPS were dominated by Europeans before Independence. They were made available to Indian citizens after the Independence. Indian Administrative Service (ICS) is the continuation of the Imperial Civil Services (ICS) which was widespread throughout the colonial time. Candidates who are selected are assigned to the position according their rank and preference. The majority of candidates select IAS as their primary choice and IPS as their second.

After the Civil Services exam results, UPSC releases the recommendation list of applicants to the Ministry of Personnel. From there, all information of candidates are shared with the relevant Cadre Controlling Authorities.
The Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration is the place where newly-selected IAS/IPS officers are enrolled for a common three-month foundation course. The basic course was successfully completed by IAS officers, who stayed in the LBSNAA while others went to their own specialized training institutes. To complete their education, IPS officer trainees are sent to the Sardar Vallabhbhai Ptel National Police Academy (SVPNPA), Hyderabad. IAS probationers have an annual two-year program however, the IPS officers are trained for two and a half years.

IAS training is more focused on management, coordination and administration of the resources and manpower. IPS training includes physical training and other laws required for police work. IPS training is more challenging and requires more physical exertion. It includes parades, horse riding armours training, and other items required for law enforcement.
Responsibilities and Powers
In a magisterial system administration, DM has the power to order to open fire to control the mob, or other circumstances. Not just this, but the approval of the DM is also required to transfer certain police officers.
IPS is appointed as the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in the district. He is more worried about the law and order within the city. He requires permission from IAS officers for certain warrants.

Salary of IAS is also superior to the recommendations of the Seventh Pay Commission. IAS pay ranges from Rs 56,100 up to 2,50,000 per month. It also varies depending on the seniority. The IAS salary is higher than IPS.
